Proposal: Rent the Grand Theatre and show the movie “Thrive”

[proposal from Rese]

In light of SEIU having offered $200 to Occupy Salem Oregon this is a submission and thoughts on how that donation could be used. There is also still the question of timing. Is it possible it must be accepted and received by Occupy Salem Oregon before the end of the year 2011?

Occupy Salem has courtesy room usage for GA’s, at this time, from Ike Box and then Peter mentioning the other building that has offered free space which has not yet been explored. It also seems reasonable that each of us participating, for the near future, should be able to pay for our own drink and snack purchases when attending meetings as only a few drink black coffee anyway.
T-shirts are already being made and monies shared with Occupy. Until we get a good logo to move forward with for branding, it doesn’t seem wise to produce additional products to sell.

I propose Occupy Salem use this $200.00 for something more significant and educational that could generate additional money, create visibility within the Salem community and provide another information gathering and sharing opportunity.

FUNDRAISER: Rent the Grand Theatre in (Salem) for a week-day evening ($330.00). Either charge a nominal cover or accept donations for admission. Have a brief presentation from Occupy Salem with information about how to get involved then show the movie “Thrive”. Have small group discussions on each of the primary topics afterwards followed by conclusion reports from each group and possible future strategy for interface with existing Occupy committees. jus, ‘Rese

Phase II for OSO

[a proposal from Bill]

The purpose of the occupy movement was to bring to light the economic injustice that has been growing in America and the rest of the world due to the greed and corruption that is rife in our government. Supreme Court decisions that equate corporations to people and money to speech has resulted in a gradual takeover of all branches of government due to deregulation, lack of will to enforce regulations that do exist and passage of laws that continue to favor the rich and powerful while ignoring the plight of middle and lower class citizens.

Proposal for OccupySalem 2.0

Think Small Size, Big Impact

1) Have a scheduled, daily activity on the Capitol steps or the park across from the Capitol. The goal is to inform and educate.
Every day have a two or three hour block of time when at least two people will be on steps. Suggest 11:00 am to 1:00 pm or 3:30 pm to 5:30. Need a few signs, ability to talk with people, perhaps half page info sheet.
With a few more people, in addition to greeting people, a discussion could be held on a specific topic, people could be meditating, praying, dancing, etc.
Could move down the street level during scheduled periods to promote visibility, or set up table w/ more information voters’e registration forms.
Have list of other actions, events being planned by OccupySalem.
During holiday season, choirs and other groups preform at Capitol. Without interfering with these events, we can still reach a lot of people.

Occupy Salem Forgiving Day Proposal

Our inability to adequately address the many critical issues facing American people today are symptoms of a United States that harbors a tainted heart. Reconciling our relationship with American Indian nations is the first step to building a foundation upon which life, liberty, and justice can be attained for all.”

Evon Peter – Alaska

This plea is based on Evons words and truth. For years I’ve had a hard time ‘celebrating’ a holiday that history in our American schools and books has fabricated. Because Occupy is a call to justice, consciousness and change we should begin with reawakening “Thanksgiving”? In Salem Oregon, across the parkway of Occupy Village, fly the flags of the Tribes of Oregon.

Occupy Salem Transition & Contacts Proposal

The physical presence of Occupy Salem is an important psychological presence. In our hearts and minds our relationship to the Village, in Willson Park next to Oregon State Capitol, is a place of connections, information distribution, and unity.
Without this prominent visible location, everyone is asking, “What’s next?” The clear answer to that is – a diversity of peaceful tactics. One will certainly be a physical presence for Occupy Salem near or in the Capitol building. We ask that our family, friends, allies and supporters in Salem and the surrounding communities contact us with ideas and suggestions.

Occupy Salem Community Outreach Proposal

[from OSO Long Range Planning]

Over the next few months we have the chance to move out into the greater Marion County business areas of town. A positive presence could also counteract the negative press the public is being presented of Occupy across the country.
The main goal is to be visible, positive and invite informative dialogue.
This proposal also takes into consideration the limited numbers of active participants we have now and the time they may have available to volunteer over the next few weeks. The primary objective is to keep people talking, researching and considering how they fit into the 99%.
