Occupy Salem Community Outreach Proposal

[from OSO Long Range Planning]

Over the next few months we have the chance to move out into the greater Marion County business areas of town. A positive presence could also counteract the negative press the public is being presented of Occupy across the country.
The main goal is to be visible, positive and invite informative dialogue.
This proposal also takes into consideration the limited numbers of active participants we have now and the time they may have available to volunteer over the next few weeks. The primary objective is to keep people talking, researching and considering how they fit into the 99%.

Occupy Salem – Long Range Planning Meeting
1 1/2 hours start: 3:40pm-5:10pm

Present: Peter, Alice, Bobbie, Rese, TJ, Christopher, Ray, Glennis, Anya, Sarah, Clarice, Stacey, Bill, Lisa, Loyal

There was a significant amount of discussion about the long range planning needs of the Village over the next two weeks. Feelings were divided about addressing that within LRP or GA. For tonight it was decided to continue with the outline of topics established in the previous LRP meetings.

To bring attention to shopping locally – buying American whenever possible – and having Occupy etc visible: Create Logo, place stickers in windows; wear buttons; Notify CCTV.

TJ, Rese, Bobbie and Tara all have print/design backgrounds and will bring logo art or print ideas with finite print or production cost production quotes to the next meeting. Rese will contact Katherine of the Art committee to gather their input and ideas. Plan is to present marketing plan for General Assembly approval that evening. Christopher knows YTP, Fox Blue is a supporter, and Lisa donated $20 toward printing.

Long Range Planning Minutes (Nov 9, 2011)

LRP Meeting opened at 5:30pm in the tented area in front of the Village Kitchen.

NEXT MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR: Wednesday November 16th at 5:30pm ALL WELCOME

ATTENDING: Crystal, Louis, Bobby, Peter, Greg, Kara, Jim and Rese

Peter reintroduced goals sheet he had presented at the first LRP meeting about a week ago and explained it’s function and additions from the two meetings since then. Copies were distributed to attending.

Discussion on Oregon Bank concept and ideas discussed about researching co-op style community banks and credit unions that may already exist as well as North Dakota bank dating back to about 1902 that has positioned their State with profit rather the the debt crisis most States and the Country are in.

Jim spoke of an upcoming Salem hearing on Nov. 16th at 9am which should be related to the formation of ideas toward a local State Bank.

It was suggested to check out the efforts of PDX lobbyist with Working Families Steve Hughes work.

The final topic that got discussed and created lots of positive enthusiasm was to network with local business that produce, manufacture, create, provide or sell local products, food stuffs or items. All present agreed to contact business owners they know for suggestions and ideas to bring back to the next meeting and to plan a meeting together with owners who would be interested in getting involved. One main idea was to generate a simple recognizable image such as an O for Occupy with the Oregon Flag inset in some form. This could be applied to posters, window flyers and possibly stickers to use in the awarness campaign. With holiday shopping season fast aproaching there was general consensus that this project was urgent if adopted by LRP.

respectfully submitted Rese please feel free to add and develope details I missed ^-^
